The Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganism and Cell Cultures GmbH is the most comprehensive microbiological resource center in the world. Hosting one of the world’s largest collections, the DSMZ currently comprises more than 87,000 microorganisms, plant viruses including antisera as well as human and animal cell lines. The DSMZ is a research infrastructure and serves worldwide as a supplier for academic research, diagnostic laboratories, national reference centers, as well as industrial partners, but also carries out its own scientific research as part of its collection-related research and as part of third-party funded projects. The non-profit DSMZ is part of the Leibniz Association since 1996.
