At the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), scientists are investigating what makes viruses and bacteria pathogenic, how the human immune system defends our body, and what novel ways can help us to fight dangerous infections in the future. Scientists at the HZI conduct basic research but pursue as well projects which aim at specific applications, as for example the development of new active substances and novel vaccination methods. Translational research plays an important role in this process and will help to ensure that scientific results are quickly transferred to clinical application.
