Infrastructure and networking in infection and health research
The Science Campus is located in the south of the city of Braunschweig, in a district called Stöckheim. On the campus of 96,000 square meters in size, 20 buildings accommodate a total of 7,000 square meters of laboratory space. In addition to the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures GmbH, laboratories of a Fraunhofer Institute, the German Center for Infection Research and start up companies are located there. The extensive infrastructural equipment on site also includes numerous technology platforms.

High-end biomedical research is increasingly using cost-intensive technologies that are too expensive to buy for smaller companies or single departments in research institutions and universities. The Science Campus Braunschweig Süd provides research institutes and companies with numerous on-site equipment and technology platforms, including genome and proteome analysis, flow cytometry, high performance microscopes, S3 laboratories and an animal facility. These technology platforms and devices are operated by experienced scientists from the scientific partners. There is also a convention and events center on campus, which can be used by resident research institutions and companies.
